.....You and me song

The Wannadies were an alternative rock band formed in 1988 in Skellefteå, northern Sweden. The band's initial line-up featured Pär Wiksten (vocals, guitars), Christina Bergmark (born 1 March 1963) (keyboards, vocals), Stefan Schönfeldt (born 5 June 1965) (guitars) and his younger brother Fredrik Schönfeldt (bass) with Gunnar Karlsson (drums) and Björn Malmquist (violin). Early influences included The Go-Betweens, The Sisters of Mercy, John Lennon, The Pixies and The Clash.

"You and me song" originally released as a single in 1994, it became the group's biggest UK hit two years later when it reached number 18 in the singles chart in April 1996. Appearing on the band's third album, Be a Girl, the song was also included on their next album, Bagsy me, due to the success of the re-released single and the song's appearance on the soundtrack of Baz Luhrmann's film William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet.

The Wannadies are one of those quirky bands that everyone has heard of but can't quite place what song they know. 'You and me song' was the biggest hit of their career and slotted into the music mind of one and all through the latter half of the 1990s.

My name is Luka....

Suzanne Nadine Vega (born July 11, 1959) is an American songwriter and singer known for her highly literate lyrics and eclectic folk-inspired music. Two of Vega's songs (both from her second album Solitude Standing, 1987) reached the top 10 of various international chart listings: "Luka" and "Tom's Diner". The latter was originally an a cappella version on Vega's album, which was then remade in 1990 as a dance track produced by the British dance production team DNA. On a 1987 Swedish television special, Vega said this about the song "Luka" ...A few years ago, I used to see this group of children playing in front of my building, and there was one of them, whose name was Luka, who seemed a little bit distinctive from the other children. I always remembered his name, and I always remembered his face, and I didn't know much about him, but he just seemed set apart from these other children that I would see playing. And his character is what I based the song Luka on. In the song, the boy Luka is an abused child — in real life I don't think he was. I think he was just different...

"Luka" is a song recorded by Suzanne Vega and released as a single in 1987. It remains her highest-charting hit in the United States, reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. This song was one of the earliest to deal with child abuse and domestic violence. One critic said, "the 'happy' music is a metaphorical denial, making this seem beautiful and serene while discussing something terrible and devastating. It is a wonderful use of tune as a metaphor for how many abuse victims also deny their abuse, and is a profound classic"

The Muffs...Funny Pop Punk

The Muffs are a rock band based in Southern California, formed in 1991... In the late '80s, founding Muffs Kim Shattuck and Melanie Vammen joined the heralded Los Angeles garage band the Pandoras, and under the direction of talented pop songwriter Paula Pierce, began to fall into over-exerted heavy metal posturing. After the disbanding of the Pandoras, Shattuck and Vammen formed the Muffs with drummer Criss Crass and bassist Ronnie Barnett. After two singles for indies Sub Pop and Sympathy for the Record Industry, which generated a large underground buzz, the Muffs were picked up by Warner Bros. and subsequently released their powerful eponymous debut album in 1993.

Sad tomorrow appears on the album Blonder and Blonder. Shortly after, Crass left the group and was replaced temporarily for the tour. Finally, after two years of touring in small venues throughout the world, the Muffs headed back into the studio to record the follow-up, Blonder and Blonder; now a three-piece due to Vammen's departure, which was caused by the typical musical differences. She would later turn up in long-standing California punk-pop band the Leaving Trains. For the Muffs' second album, ex-Redd Kross drummer and longtime Muffs friend Roy McDonald joined the group. Happy Birthday to Me followed in 1997, trailed two years later by Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow; a rarities collection, Hamburger, appeared in early 2000. After a five-year break from recording, the group reconvened in 2004 to release their fifth studio set. Really really happy.

It's certainly good to know that Kim Shattuck and her partners in pop-punk, the Muffs, are still at it 11 years after dropping their first long-player... Their cover of "Kids in America", originally by Kim Wilde, was used in the soundtrack for the movie Clueless in 1995, The film became a surprise sleeper hit of 1995, grossing well over $11 million on its opening weekend second place behind Apollo 13, and it eventually grossed $60 million during its theatrical run. It was the 32nd highest-grossing film of 1995 and brought the then-largely unknown actress Alicia Silverstone to national and international attention.
