Now They'll Sleep

Belly was a rock band formed in 1991 by former Throwing Muses members Tanya Donelly (who was also in The Breeders) and Fred Abong. The band was based in Boston, Massachusetts, though all of the original members grew up in Newport, Rhode Island. The band consisted of Donelly on lead vocals and guitar, Abong on bass, Tom Gorman on guitar, and Chris Gorman on drums. Tom and Chris, who were brothers, were childhood friends of Donelly's, they had previously played in the hardcore punk band Verbal Assault. Soon after, their single "Feed the Tree" made the Top 40 in the UK Singles Chart and their first album, Star (1993). Now They'll Sleep appears on the second album "King" , it was released in 1995,

Just after the release of Star, bassist Fred Abong left and was replaced by Gail Greenwood. Greenwood was originally a guitar player in a Boston-area metal band before being recruited to play bass in Belly. The live sound of the band evolved to accommodate her style, with its shows featuring more electric guitar than before and less of the dreamy quality of its first album.

As a result, the group's next album, "King" (1995), was more rock and roll-oriented. The album was not a popular success and the band was stuck between mainstream and underground acceptance. "King" saw its numerous singles fail to sustain any significant airplay on Modern Rock radio. The videos for "Now They'll Sleep" and "Super Connected" received little airplay on MTV US outside of limited airings on 120 Minutes, although they were well received on MTV Europe. Belly appeared on the April 20, 1995 cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

In 1996, Donelly broke up the band; she has since released several solo albums. Greenwood went on to stints in L7 and Benny Sizzler, and the Gorman brothers began careers as commercial photographers based in New York City.

Mocca - What if

Mocca is an Indonesian four-member band formed in 1997 in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The band's musical style is inspired by the retro sounds of the 70s, with influences of swing, bossa nova, Swedish pop, and jazz. The core of the band is Arina Ephipania Simangunsong, Riko Prayitno, Achmad ("Toma") Pratama, and Indra Massad. While in college, Arina and Riko decided to get together and form a band. For a year, they struggled with performing other people's music, finding themselves bored with the lack of innovation, at which point they decided to write their own songs. In 1997, they composed four songs that unfortunately were not well-received by the rest of the band. After much squabbling and conflict the band split up, leaving only Arina and Riko with their songs. In late 1999, they asked Indra and Toma to join and Mocca was born. They now had a group with the same vision and awareness of music. Their debut album My Diary contains 13 songs written from a girl's point of view and her diary entries. The lyrics are in English, When playing live, MOCCA is supported by six additional players on keyboards, guitar, percussion, trumpet, trombone, and sax.

What if I give you my smile?
Are you gonna stay for a while?
What if I put you in my dreams tonight?
Are you gonna stay until it’s bright?

What if I give you my story?
Are you gonna listen to me?
What if I give you my heart?
Are we never gonna be apart?

Come on baby try harder
Come on baby light my fire
Come on baby be mine
‘Cause you’re the one I wanted to be

What if I do ignore you
Will you just walk away and cry?
What if I did disappoint you?
Are you gonna say goodbye?

Come on baby try harder
Come on baby light my fire
Come on baby be mine
‘Cause you’re the one I wanted to be

What if I try to catch flying snitch?
Are you gonna come with me?
What if I give you my song?
Are we gonna sing along?

Come on baby try harder
Come on baby light my fire
Come on baby be mine
‘Cause you’re the one I wanted to be

What if you leave me right here?
I’m right here and waiting for you?

Their debut album My Diary contains 13 songs which were written sequentially based on their story telling concept. The concept was illustrated by Mocca through a girl’s point of view who frequently wrote her daily experiences into a diary. The album started with a song: ‘Once upon a time’ as an intro, and followed by her first encounter with her secret admirer (song: secret admirer), then after a long hesitation (twist me around, what if) she decided to get steady with the boy (me & my boyfriend). Thus, they caught up in a fight (telephone), got broke up(when the moonlight shine), and in the end they understood that they weren’t meant for each other (Rain will fall, Life keeps on turning). “All songs are written in English, therefore most part of the world could understand the lyrics and it’ll alleviate mocca’s way to go international.”

.....You and me song

The Wannadies were an alternative rock band formed in 1988 in Skellefteå, northern Sweden. The band's initial line-up featured Pär Wiksten (vocals, guitars), Christina Bergmark (born 1 March 1963) (keyboards, vocals), Stefan Schönfeldt (born 5 June 1965) (guitars) and his younger brother Fredrik Schönfeldt (bass) with Gunnar Karlsson (drums) and Björn Malmquist (violin). The Wannadies are one of those quirky bands that everyone has heard of but can't quite place what song they know. 'You and me song' was the biggest hit of their career and slotted into the music mind of one and all through the latter half of the 1990s.

My name is Luka....

Suzanne Nadine Vega (born July 11, 1959) is an American songwriter and singer known for her highly literate lyrics and eclectic folk-inspired music. Two of Vega's songs (both from her second album Solitude Standing, 1987) reached the top 10 of various international chart listings: "Luka" and "Tom's Diner". The latter was originally an a cappella version on Vega's album, which was then remade in 1990 as a dance track produced by the British dance production team DNA. On a 1987 Swedish television special, Vega said this about the song "Luka" ...A few years ago, I used to see this group of children playing in front of my building, and there was one of them, whose name was Luka, who seemed a little bit distinctive from the other children. I always remembered his name, and I always remembered his face, and I didn't know much about him, but he just seemed set apart from these other children that I would see playing. And his character is what I based the song Luka on. In the song, the boy Luka is an abused child — in real life I don't think he was. I think he was just different...

"Luka" is a song recorded by Suzanne Vega and released as a single in 1987. It remains her highest-charting hit in the United States, reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. This song was one of the earliest to deal with child abuse and domestic violence. One critic said, "the 'happy' music is a metaphorical denial, making this seem beautiful and serene while discussing something terrible and devastating. It is a wonderful use of tune as a metaphor for how many abuse victims also deny their abuse, and is a profound classic"
